Waterfall Jumping

Having completed our duties with EWB and the water project, Evan and I set out on an adventurous vacation.  Our first stop was not far from the community.  We stayed at the hostel in Tacuba, a town nearby.  The first order of business was to crack open a bottle of Flor de Cana

Looking out over Tacuba.

The next day we woke up early and headed out for the nearby national park to take a tour of some waterfalls.

The truck ride was intense.

This would be our epic or extreme faces.

Our guide for most of the hike.

Descending from the ridge-tops into the jungle.

Along the waterway headed to the first waterfall.

Waterfall number one.

Evan took the first plunge.

Evan makes a splash.

More scrambling down the rocks.

We found a cool insect.

I wore my hiking boots the whole way.  They were a bit like anchors in the water.

The main guide.  He was a rather interesting fellow.

We weren’t able to jump off this waterfall from the top.  Further down though we could.

The time it took to resurface after hitting the water felt ridiculously long.

We found a beheaded boa constrictor on the road.

Our guide was pissed off that someone killed this harmless snake.

Completion of the Project

The completed structure with a few extra people thrown in for good measure.

Slap Happy.

Finishing the last odds and ends.

Carrying extra cement for storage.

Heading home in the fog.  We wore machetes at night for protection as did all of the community.  Occasionally outsiders would come from lower towns to try and stir up trouble.  The machetes helped prevent that.

One last visit to the school before we left.
