Flying Back to Monterey

On my way back from Paris to Monterey, I flew via San Francisco.  The little plane that I was on to MRY was absolutely dwarfed by this Airbus A380 from the UAE.

Evidently 2018 is the Year of Zayed.

Some construction at SFO on a new terminal.

Flying out of SFO up and over the bay.

Going up toward San Francisco.

Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.

Looking back at SFO.

A reservoir right on top of the San Andreas Fault.

Flying down the coast.

Heading down toward Santa Cruz.

Looking down on the old Fort Ord grounds on our way into Monterey.

Notre-Dame de Paris

I took a quick lunch break walk to Notre-Dame de Paris.  It’s been more than 20 years since I was last here.

The cathedral must have been so impressive back when most of Paris wasn’t more than four stories high.

Dark building on a bright blue background.

A whole lot of stone went into this building.

The upkeep must cost a fortune.

Saint John Paul II, who I saw lying in state at the Vatican a few years back.

The front entrance.  I remember the stonework being in much worse shape before.

What a big, impressive cathedral!  I still think though the cathedral in Trondheim, Norway is more impressive.

Some restoration going on along one side of the cathedral.

Walking Around Paris

A bust of Nobel Prize winner, Henri Becquerel.

Walking through a park where there is a huge steel statue of a whale vertebra.

A statue in the park.

The Panthéon peaking through some buildings.

Big building.

The Eiffel Tower in the distance.

A celestial observatory on top of a building in the middle of Paris.

A monument to Dr. Pasteur.  I used to walk past Place Pasteur in Tunisia all the time.

A monument to Pierre and Marie Curie outside the laboratories where they worked in Paris.

Fancy ice cream.
