My First Monday at Mines

IMG_1169

On my first full day at Mines I saw a few interesting things.  This old switcher locomotive hides out by the facilities services buildings.  It has tracks leading back into a shop but no tracks beyond the nose of the engine.  I wonder how this thing got here, what it was used for, and why it is still hanging around.

The big M on the side of Mount Zion where the Class of 2017 can be seen (look for the white line to the lower right of the M and above the buses).  The buses were brought in to carry the students back down the mountain.  The students had to do their own hiking up there from campus.

This is another shot from earlier in the day.  All of the little white dots are students carrying their rocks.

From my desk chair I can see North Table Mountain. Not bad!
