Witham Hill

Dan, Kyle, and I went on a quick ride along the Coffee Loop.  We tacked on some extra by doing Witham Hill as well.  According to my computer we did 19.6 miles, I hit a maximum of 40.3 mph, the average speed was 14.8 mph, and it took us about 1:20 to do the whole route.  My cycling computer tells me I burned 1050 calories.  That should help work off a few of the beer calories from last night’s fun.

Last night I went for a quick run along the Witham Hill bike path.  In spite of the rain, the leaves are still hanging onto the trees in their full fall glory.  In total, I ran 2.2 miles.

Tonight Samantha and I went on a jog along the Witham Hill bike path and through the Crest Drive neighborhood.  Fall colors are in full swing in Corvallis at the moment.  This time I remembered to take my camera.

Our route took us on a 3.3 mile jog.

Tonight Samantha and I ran along the Witham Hill bike path.  We started out just before sunset and made it back as it was starting to get toward dusk.  Both of us were surprised that we didn’t run into the cat that has followed us the last few times we’ve been down there.  Samantha wondered if perhaps the cat had been eaten on its wanderings into the spooky scrublands along the path.  I figured it was either inside eating or out hunting and had already received enough loving for the day.

Our route was about 2.5 miles long.

Tonight, Samantha didn’t feel like going jogging, still being sore from the last two nights of exercise.  She stayed home to watch the first presidential debate.  My route took me up and over Witham Hill past the Witham Hill Oaks apartment complex where I lived with Rick F and Sean all those years ago.  The place still looks exactly the same.

Down on Walnut, I passed another runner going in the opposite direction.  He was doing the long grind up and over toward Harrison Boulevard.  Maybe in another few nights, I’ll go out that way again.  It’s been at least six months since the last time I had the time and motivation to do that route.

At the Co-Op, I stopped to buy some organic lemon juice to use in a soy sauce and lemon juice chicken dish that Samantha and I are going to cook tonight.  I managed to get in and out just before they were getting ready to shut down for the night.  Running back up Grant toward my house I reflected on the fact that I didn’t pass one group of drunken college students or even a house party.  Where are all of the beginning of the term parties these days, anyway?

In total I ran 4.4 miles.

Tonight we went jogging as the night fell across Corvallis.  The streets were dead due to the OSU vs USC football game at Reser Stadium.  On one of the paths near Circle Boulevard, we saw a small rodent very much dead.  Its entrails were spewed across the sidewalk a few feet away from the body.

Going through one of the neighborhoods on the top of Witham Hill, not one but two cats followed us in succession.  The first cat came up to Samantha and let her look it at its collar.  It said “I am not lost.”  The second cat just about jumped into her arms demanding love.  We left the two kitties behind and ran down the hill to the Co-Op where we purchased supplies for dinner.  In total, we went three miles.

Went up to 35th then down Harrison to 29th then over to Grant and back along the diagonal street to the Towne Pump gas station. Then out Lincoln to Witham Hill Drive, over Witham Hill to Walnut. East on Walnut to Highland Drive out past Crescent Valley. Up over Lewisburg Saddle and down Soap Springs road. Went out the rifle range road until it turned to gravel. Turned around and went out to 99W. 99W back to Corvallis. Turned onto 9th street and paraded down to Jefferson then to 11th then 15th then A street and Samantha’s. Bike ran just like a dream.

36 miles total. Rode alone.

Stopped at gas station. 80.4 miles since last fill. 1.967 gallons purchased. Fuel economy of about 40 mpg. Not great but that’s from all of the 1st gear riding, idling, and working the gears in the parking lot.
