Goodbye Gallery2!

A little over a year ago I started using Gallery2 on my website to host photos. A few months after the initial adoption I discovered that Gallery2 is most definitely NOT cut out for any serious integration with WordPress. Or at least not with the WPG2 plugin and not while hosted on a standard account with DreamHost. Since the spring I have been working off and on to convert all of the posts using Gallery2 over to the built-in WordPress image management system. This evening I finally finished. I now am free of Gallery2. Forever!

I, for one, salute our new hexapodal robot overlords

It seems someone has taken hexapodal robots one step closer to total world domination.  A guy named Matt created a robot that can create 3-D surfaces using a router and and end mill bit.  It looks like it’s only a proof of concept but I can see this same idea quickly being married to a whole host of applications.  Just wait until the day when hexapodal robots can create more hexapodal robots!  Let’s hope no one lets them think for themselves.

oobject.com – how do they do it?

The oobject.com website has a style that I would like to replicate on my website for various parts of it.  I was thinking of a similar style for the front page and for a few of the other pages (portfolio, my travels page, etc).  Poking around their website, I don’t see how oobject does it.  Is that hand-coded or is it a plugin or ???

Update: It looks like they do it using a service from wists.com.  It’s a shame that there isn’t a locally-hosted option because I would enjoy running something like that on my website.
