Last night I did about an hour on the tread mill at the gym. 20 minutes of running at 5.5 mph with between a 6 and 3 degree slope (varying). 5 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph. 10 minutes of running at 5.5 mph. 10 minutes of walking at 3 mph on a 15 degree incline. 5 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph on a flat surface. 100 side steps in each direction at about 2 mph. Walking backwards at about 2mph for 5 or so minutes. Emily S happened to be working out at the same time I was there.

Afterward I did some quick chest and arms weights and some abs.

My extreme treadmill time was designed to start getting my legs and core warmed up for the impending snowboarding season. It doesn’t matter that there isn’t any snow at any of the resorts. I still have to get ready!

Tonight I went for a run up and round WItham Hill.  There were some neighborhoods on its northern flank that I had never had the chance to explore before.  It turned out to be yet another civil engineer’s take on suburban hell.  Good place to go running though or at least as long as you don’t mind getting lost.

On the way back, rain started to fall but I wasn’t cold.  It must be 65 degrees outside!  That isn’t very promising for the ski season.

In total, I ran 3.5 miles.

Last night I went for a quick run along the Witham Hill bike path.  In spite of the rain, the leaves are still hanging onto the trees in their full fall glory.  In total, I ran 2.2 miles.

Tonight, Samantha didn’t feel like going jogging, still being sore from the last two nights of exercise.  She stayed home to watch the first presidential debate.  My route took me up and over Witham Hill past the Witham Hill Oaks apartment complex where I lived with Rick F and Sean all those years ago.  The place still looks exactly the same.

Down on Walnut, I passed another runner going in the opposite direction.  He was doing the long grind up and over toward Harrison Boulevard.  Maybe in another few nights, I’ll go out that way again.  It’s been at least six months since the last time I had the time and motivation to do that route.

At the Co-Op, I stopped to buy some organic lemon juice to use in a soy sauce and lemon juice chicken dish that Samantha and I are going to cook tonight.  I managed to get in and out just before they were getting ready to shut down for the night.  Running back up Grant toward my house I reflected on the fact that I didn’t pass one group of drunken college students or even a house party.  Where are all of the beginning of the term parties these days, anyway?

In total I ran 4.4 miles.
