Last night I did about an hour on the tread mill at the gym. 20 minutes of running at 5.5 mph with between a 6 and 3 degree slope (varying). 5 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph. 10 minutes of running at 5.5 mph. 10 minutes of walking at 3 mph on a 15 degree incline. 5 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph on a flat surface. 100 side steps in each direction at about 2 mph. Walking backwards at about 2mph for 5 or so minutes. Emily S happened to be working out at the same time I was there.

Afterward I did some quick chest and arms weights and some abs.

My extreme treadmill time was designed to start getting my legs and core warmed up for the impending snowboarding season. It doesn’t matter that there isn’t any snow at any of the resorts. I still have to get ready!

Tonight I went for a run up and round WItham Hill.  There were some neighborhoods on its northern flank that I had never had the chance to explore before.  It turned out to be yet another civil engineer’s take on suburban hell.  Good place to go running though or at least as long as you don’t mind getting lost.

On the way back, rain started to fall but I wasn’t cold.  It must be 65 degrees outside!  That isn’t very promising for the ski season.

In total, I ran 3.5 miles.

Last night I went for a quick run along the Witham Hill bike path.  In spite of the rain, the leaves are still hanging onto the trees in their full fall glory.  In total, I ran 2.2 miles.

Tonight Samantha and I went on a jog along the Witham Hill bike path and through the Crest Drive neighborhood.  Fall colors are in full swing in Corvallis at the moment.  This time I remembered to take my camera.

Our route took us on a 3.3 mile jog. More photos are available by clicking on any of the pictures.

Tonight Samantha and I ran along the Witham Hill bike path.  We started out just before sunset and made it back as it was starting to get toward dusk.  Both of us were surprised that we didn’t run into the cat that has followed us the last few times we’ve been down there.  Samantha wondered if perhaps the cat had been eaten on its wanderings into the spooky scrublands along the path.  I figured it was either inside eating or out hunting and had already received enough loving for the day.

Our route was about 2.5 miles long.

Fall colors walk

This afternoon Samantha and I took a short walk around the neighborhood to look at the fall colors. Some trees are still mostly green while others burn bright red and yellow. People are starting to rake the leaves in their yards and pile them in the street for collection. Next time we go out, I will have to bring a camera to take some photos of all the beauty.

Our walk covered 1.8 miles of gorgeousness.

Tonight Samantha and I went for a walk rather than a jog.  Neither of us were particularly feeling in a jogging mood.  Walking up the side road that I speculate may have been the original way up Witham Hill from the east, we saw a small herd of deer munching on the landscaping of a house.  Down in the wetlands, we were bombarded by a host of bats as night fell.  The cat that we had seen several nights previous with the “I’m Not Lost” tag made a reappearance far down the wetland path.  That kitty has quite the range!

Walking back to the house, we were accosted by several more cats out looking for some loving.  It seems that neighborhood is quite the mecca of petting-whore cats.

Tonight we went for a quick jog as time was not on our side.  My ASOSU Senate meeting had run long, pushing our exercise well into the night.  Running at night has always been very enjoyable to me.  I like running in that cool, crisp air.  There are hardly any cars on the road, almost no people, and few if any dogs about to give chase.

Passing the plum tree was a melancholy affair.  No plums were to be had.  Not until next fall will we feast on the forlorn fruit of the upper middle class suburbanites who plant plum trees for ornamentation and not for food.

In total, we jogged 2.7 miles.

Tonight we went jogging with plum smuggling in mind.  After a run through the dog park on Witham Hill where we watched several rather comical dogs get tangled up in each others’ leashes, we went to our favorite plum tree.  It was already too dark to discern a plum from a leaf but we managed to collect about 30 or 40 plums.  Sadly, I think tonight was the last plum smuggling event of the season.  Most of the tree was already bare.   No doubt, the deer have gotten to it.  Samantha also discovered that overripe plums make for a headache when they fall on your head.

At the Co-Op we shopped for some groceries and other miscellaneous foodstuffs including a carrot cake.  Samantha convinced me of the economy of buying an entire cake rather than just two slices.  Why have two slices when you can have a whole cake at half the per-slice cost?

Our total distance tonight was 3.2 miles

Tonight’s route took us through some neighborhoods I’ve never visited before.  A small fluffy white dog escaped its owners, ran up to our ankles and snarled at us.  After much yelling by the owner and gentle scolding from us, the fluffy puppy went back to the house from whence it came.

In the flat neighborhoods, Samantha took the lead, taking us on a circuitous route to add extra distance.  In total, we jogged 3 miles.
